MICHELLE
MILAM
is a Girls Inc. success story—at least that’s how we see
it. She was born and raised in Richmond, and she grew up with Girls
Inc. She began her relationship with Girls Inc. when she was five
years old. When Michelle graduated from high school, she was a Girls
Inc. National Scholar and attended UC Berkeley with a well deserved
Girls Incorporated scholarship, and graduated with a degree in English.
Ms. Milam worked as a program developer at Girls Incorporated of West
Contra Costa County for seven years. Her deep commitment to children
and youth in the East Bay is evident in the variety of roles she has
filled. She
is Field Representative for Assemblywoman Loni Hancock. Her assigned
issues include juvenile justice and public safety, economic development,
food systems, youth development and pre-apprenticeship programs.
Michelle coordinates a church-sponsored teen pregnancy prevention
program: is a Voter Alert coordinator for St. Paul A.M.E. church and
serves on the Board of Directors of Girls Incorporated of West Contra
Costa County.Ms. Milam is a poet and writer, and is currently working
on her first novel.
She
is truly an inspiration to all girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold!
